Cia Liguria Farmers expresses dismay and great concern for the blocking of the activity of the oil mills linked to the failure to collect the pomace by the only pomace factory present in the provinces of Imperia and Savona.
“In a year that could finally compensate the olive growers for the failed harvests suffered in the last three years, the blocking of the mills' activity sounds like a tragic mockery that hits the weakest part of the supply chain – explains Stefano Roggerone, President of Cia Agricoltori Liguria -. The blocking of the oil mills during the olive harvest period is equivalent to the closing of the bathing establishments during the summer; an absurd thing that, however, in this State where the virgin pomace is evidently equated to the most harmful of radioactive waste, unfortunately occurs.
We ask all the authorities who have a say in this matter to act promptly to prevent the blocking of the mills and to allow us to return to milling olives as is natural and right. A situation that, moreover, today affects Western Liguria, but can have further repercussions on the entire Ligurian territory”.
