Are approximately 200 le companies who adhere to the Italian extra virgin oil supply chain agreement signed by Carapelli Florence e Confagricoltura and of which they are celebrated since its establishment. It was the first experience of collaboration within the supply chain between primary sector e oil industry and, after some time, it is a common belief that the benefits, for both parties, have been significant. About it was Anna Cane, Scientific & Public Affairs Director Carapelli Firenze of the Deoleo Group (in the picture), to underline the strong points of the agreement:
Economic aspects - A premium on the market price and the commitment to purchase by Carapelli (the consumer value of the oil resulting from the agreement is around 25 million euros);
Qualitative aspects – A series of restrictive quality standards, including a well-defined organoleptic profile, very low acidity, max 0,3, a minimum content of polyphenols and pesticide residues more restrictive than the European limits;
Logistics aspects – The need for greater product aggregation with logistics systems that protect quality;
Certified traceability – Both in terms of provenance and cultivar (new technologies for traceability);
Sustainability Certification – According to a very strict corporate protocol verified and certified by Interteck.
The agreement is part of Carapelli Firenze's development strategy 100% Italian premium segment, declined in various forms (tracked, sustainable, bio, unfiltered).
“An important repercussion – underlined Anna Cane – was that of being able to count on trusted operators. We have left the customer-supplier logic and moved on to that of partner. New stimuli have been created for the new generations of olive growers. It was very interesting to see the enthusiasm and energy of the young olive growers and oil millers, who are much more open to innovation and collaboration”. The result of the work of the agreement is clearly visible in the 100% Italian Il Nobile product – which in the last five years has grown by 50% and consuming families have grown by 20%.
Satisfaction was also expressed by the representatives of the productive part: “Five years ago, – he underlined Thomas LoiodicePresident Unapol – we were forerunners in promoting and putting into practice what today appear to be mandatory values of extreme relevance. The complexity of the sustainability issue, which cannot be declined only in environmental terms but also in socio-economic ones, can materialize if one is capable of creating a transversal culture that starts from the fields and reaches the consumer. What has most excited this path is being able to affirm that today there is a community of farms, oil mills, Ops, Aops, sector technicians, trade associations (Confagricoltura) which together with industry (Carapelli) share the challenges and concerns of the olive sector and beyond".
“It was the first experience of collaboration within the entire supply chain” he recalled Paolo Mariani, director of Op Confoliva who added: “It has been working for 5 years and it also works well. And so we hope that this positive experience will continue in the future as well".
