The places reserved for the mill operator course sold out within a few days “expert oil mill manager” promoted by Calabria Region e Arsac – Regional Company for the Development of Calabrian Agriculture aimed at entrepreneurs and technicians in the sector.

Indeed, to respond to the numerous requests received, the number of participants increased from 25 to 30. But many remained outside, demonstrating how these training courses receive great interest from operators in the sector. This is the third appointment promoted in Calabria within a few months, this time scheduled in Cosenza after those held in rapid succession in Vibo Valentia.

The choice of Calabria

Rosario Franco, who is responsible for organizing these events, highlights their effectiveness. "In the past - points out - Nobody did these courses. Then, at the instigation of the regional councilor for agriculture Gianluca Gallo, the activation of these courses was appropriately foreseen, also due to the fact that the tender for the modernization of oil mills financed with Pnrr funds, put in the conditions oil millers to renew their plants with high-tech machinery that necessarily required all-round training. A proposal that immediately found approval from the millers themselves as demonstrated by the requests for participation, confirming the desire to update and grow professionally".

The applications for participation do not only come from Calabria, but also from Puglia, Sicily and Campania. Moreover, the symbolic cost of the course - just 100 euros - certainly stimulates and is an important message that the Region and Arsac wanted to convey: on training and professional updating: the public sector must guarantee maximum attention and availability. And we can be sure that others will be organized soon.

All-round training

Proof of this is also the level of the trainers. “The fundamental objective of the course – recalls Rosario Franco – is to provide a path aimed at increasing skills in mill management. And therefore in the five days scheduled at the end of the month, the students will be put in a position to be able to evaluate the raw material, adopting the appropriate corrective measures dictated by modern techniques aimed at the production of high quality oil, as well as allowing them to manage the machines by checking their regulation and operation, in such a way as to guarantee the requested product in compliance with current legislation regarding the protection of hygiene, safety and environmental supervision. Not only that: great attention is also given to aspects relating to the evaluation of the organoleptic quality of oils through sensorial analysis, considering that this represents a method for quality certification. Furthermore, the foundations for the development of corporate marketing will be provided by exploiting both the potential of the main media and social networks".
