Registration is now open for the second training course on olive cultivation techniques as part of the project In.Mi.Qu.Oil. The course will be held on next November 28th at the Busulmona company in Noto, in the province of Syracuse.

In.Mi.Qu.Oil is an innovative system aimed at improving the quality of the olive supply chain within the Sicily RDP 2014-2020 (Submeasure 16.2 "Support for pilot projects and the development of new products, practices, processes and technologies"). Its objective is to develop a standardized scientific methodology for carrying out all activities aimed at improving product quality, both in the field and in the oil mill, thus making a significant contribution to the critical issues of the olive supply chain.

Understanding how to move in the field, how correct management of the foliage can influence the quality of the oil and knowing the new eco-friendly defense strategies are just some of the topics that will be covered during the training day which will also include a visit to the field and a practical demonstration .

Below is the detailed program:

MORNING

9.00 Hours - Opening of the course and registration of participants

9.30 Hours - “Canopy management in olive growing for improving production and reducing production alternation” by Filippo Ferlito, first researcher at CREA, Olive, Fruit and Citrus Research Center

10.15 Hours - coffee break

10.35 Hours - Field visit and practical demonstration: foliage management and pruning

12.30 Hours - lunch break

AFTERNOON

14.00 Hours - “Adversities of the olive tree and eco-compatible phytosanitary defense strategies” by Veronica Vizzari, researcher at CREA, Olive, Fruit and Citrus Growing Research Center

14.45 Hours - “Management of the olive grove: the soil, the microbiota and its interactions with the plant”, edited by Innocenzo Muzzalupo, CREA manager, Forestry and Wood Research Center

15.30 - “Olive grove monitoring through the Agricolus platform” by Rodolfo Occhipinti, Sata srl

16.15 - Debate

The course is only aimed at a maximum of 30 participants. Further requests for admission to the training course will be placed on the waiting list. Registration can take place until November 24th on the website www.inmiquoil.it
