Discounted lunch for students who bring oil from local mills

Worth mentioning is the initiative undertaken by a small municipality in the Salerno area – Caggiano, 2.500 souls – to help introduce the little ones to a correct nutritional education and in particular touse of extra virgin olive oilA beautiful story of our province, deeply rooted in values ​​and traditions that are disappearing.

The families of pupils and students of nursery school (kindergarten) and lower secondary school (middle school) who will bring Two liters of extra virgin olive oil produced by one of the five mills in the area will receive a discount on the school canteen fee.The oil can be family-produced, obtained from olives brought to the mills for the so-called "home-made oil", or purchased directly from one of the local oil mills.

The initiative is part of an already award-winning project called “Canteen at Metro 0 and 0 Waste” which transformed the school canteen of Caggiano into a true laboratory of circular economy and environmental sustainability Families become active participants in the process. They contribute locally sourced tomatoes and participate in the production of bread and pasta using local grains. By bringing extra virgin olive oil harvested from local mills, they receive credit that allows them to benefit from concrete discounts on canteen fees.

The goal is twofold: promote the short supply chain and local agriculture, in particular the mills that grind the local olives, and at the same time promote healthy eating e drastically reduce waste.

Thanks to the synergy between institutions, producers and families, the canteen becomes a center for raising awareness of conscious consumption. The little ones learn the value of “less waste” and the importance of choosing wholesome foods.
