When, with our pruning tools, we cut off a part of the plant – a bouquet or a gill – one is implemented wound. And the plant reacts immediately.
How? First it goes to close i woody pots, so that there are no liquid spills. Then, in the part immediately below the cut, a undifferentiated meristematic tissue which goes to create one protective barrier between the plant and the external environment, so that they cannot enter animal or plant parasites, or pollutants found in the atmosphere. This part creates a cell tissue which, slowly, are filled with suberin, a substance that gradually hardens and goes on to create the healing callus.
Times. Of course to develop a tissue, the plant needs to be in full vegetative activity, needs there to be one chlorophyll photosynthesis such as to give energy to the plant itself, that there is a circulation of lymph inside the olive tree in order to bring nourishment to the cells called to create this suberine. Therefore, an olive tree which is, as in this moment, still in conditions of vegetative rest, will see this healing activity postponed over time. by how much? Most likely you will have to wait at least another twenty days, when the temperatures will increase, when the sums of light will be even more evident for the plant.
When, with pruning, they are then created in the cut diameter arriving at 8/10 cm or even more, the healing callus becomes a little more complex. We no longer have a lineup of wound cork, but here, with larger surfaces, we will have the formation of wound wood. What does this mean? That the proliferation of these undifferentiated cells we were talking about earlier will start this time come on BORDI and they will lift a large number of as many cells. In short, one is created cellular hyperplasia, with these cells that, instead of suberin cork, will fill up with lignin and slowly this slapping will be more evident over the years, but it will go better to repair the plants.
