The Minister of Health and Consumer Affairs of the Government of Andalusia, Catalina García, has announced the launch of an initiative that aims to inform consumers about Andalusian extra virgin olive oil on its health properties. This will be possible thanks to a QR code that the EVO (extra virgin olive oil) containers will have of the Autonomous Community, through which the health benefits of this product will be known.
This initiative, as the magazine explains Mercacei, will soon be presented to the olive growing sector. “Our extra virgin olive oil is approved for its healthy properties by numerous scientific studies conducted in Andalusian universities and hospitals, but also at a national and international level, such as Harvard University. This QR code will be a window into health for consumers”, observed the Minister, underlining that EVOO has multiple proven benefits for the prevention of, among others, cardiovascular diseases, cancer and neurodegenerative diseases.
During his speech, the Andalusian Minister insisted on defending the healthy properties of extra virgin olive oil as "the main guarantee for reaching new markets and consumers". Among the healthy benefits of EVOO, the head of Health and Consumer Affairs mentioned its contents of monounsaturated fatty acids (oleic acid), which give it cardioprotective characteristics, which help reduce LDL cholesterol and help increase healthy cholesterol, HDL.
At the same time, “our oil also contains omega-3 and omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids, recommended by nutritionists for their anti-inflammatory properties which, together with the vitamins they provide us, are powerful natural antioxidants. These properties give EVO a preventive effect on cellular aging, delaying neuronal damage in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's or senile dementia,” he added.
