The Ministry has initiated discussions between institutions and all subjects involved in the agricultural and agri-food sector in order to analyze the observations that the European Commission sent to the MIPAAF in order to Strategic Plan of the Common Agricultural Policy. On the occasion Minister Stefano Patuanelli highlighted the need to reach an agreement with the Regions as soon as possible distribution of EAFRD funds as many of the Commission's observations can be traced back to the lack of information on the financial allocation of the interventions of the second pillar of the CAP.
The issues obviously also concern the olive sector, for which the strategies - in the absence of a real Plan - are extrapolated from the Strategic Plan between CAP funds and PSR funds and the combination with the other measures envisaged by the Pnrr (supply chain contracts and funds for mills) or by the transition 4.0.
To about the president of Italia Olivicola, Gennaro Sicolo (in the picture), which is preparing the considerations of the Association to be sent to the Ministry, points out: “The Strategic Plan enhances the path linked on the one hand to the quality of the productions, on the other to sustainability. And they are important elements. But for olive growing it is necessary to take a further step forward, for this I hope that the various players, in the debate that will develop in order to respond promptly to the Commission's observations, strongly share the idea of reserving a supplement for this sector of attention. Because it becomes essential to aim at a full identifiability of the olive oil, which means making the quality of extra virgin olive oil recognized and recognizable so as not to run the risk of it being transformed into a commodity which would mean the end for everyone. From the OP associations, rightly considered by the Ministry to be the main players in the supply chain, there is this full awareness. It will be essential that the other subjects also row in the same direction. And maybe they converge on the basic choice that olive oil, as the main element from Mediterranean diet, can be the keystone for a full valorisation and recognition of all the Italian agri-food qualities that are a full part of this diet".
