It was officially presented on new National Olive Oil Sector Plan. A decisive step for the sector, represented in full at the table convened by the undersecretary of Masaf, Patrizio La Pietra, and called to define the guidelines with which the Meloni Government aims to relaunch a strategic supply chain for Italian agriculture. A broad and structured Plan, designed to guarantee not only economic resources, but also strategic tools capable of strengthening national production and relaunching a strategic supply chain for Italian agriculture.
“Today the real challenge for the Italian olive oil sector is return to producing and to reaffirm Italy's role as a leading nation in the sector, without ever giving up on quality. We must strengthen the economic and cultural value of our extra virgin olive oil, guaranteeing a right price to producers and the supply chain. Our strength lies in quality, and it is in this area that we are unbeatable”, declared the undersecretary of Masaf, Patrizio La Pietra, on the sidelines of the olive oil table.
“As rightly highlighted by Minister Lollobrigida, the commitment of Masaf and the Meloni government to promote the relaunch of the olive growing sector is 360 degrees, like what has been done in general for agriculture and ranges between contrast to Xylella through funds made available by the government, innovation as in the case of the decree for the modernization of the oil mills e promoting the value of the quality of the Italian product. The closeness to the farmers of Puglia, whose olive groves are strategic for national production, is expressed through the 30 million made available in recent days, the round tables with the operators who were culpably not convened in the past and a specific section within the national olive plan. We intend to discuss with all the protagonists of the olive supply chain to develop the draft plan and quickly reach the identification of a path that strengthen the competitiveness of Italian oil in economic terms, but also and above all from the point of view of recognition of the unparalleled quality of our production. Recognizing the right price for a quality product is a must to adequately support our olive growers and all the components of the supply chain, promoting the message that Italian oil is an oil of the highest quality is the first fundamental step to restart the sector and accompany it in facing the challenges of a complex international market, but at the same time full of opportunities”.
