Frantoi Aperti in Umbria 2023, a rich program of events

A month of initiatives with numerous cities in the region involved

It will kick off Saturday October 28 the twenty-sixth edition of Open Oil Mills in Umbria, the now famous event which, until November 26 2023, will celebrate the arrival of the new extra virgin olive oil by reviving the period of olive harvesting and pressing, with experiential visits to the oil mill and a busy calendar of initiatives set between the natural setting of the olive groves and the medieval charm of the many participating municipalities.

The event was presented by the president of the Strada Olio Evo Dop Umbria Association, Paolo Morbidoni, and by the regional councilor for agriculture Roberto Morroni, together with some of the protagonists of the animation activities (in the photo the speech of the panel leader Angela Canale).

Opening the event on the first weekend of Frantoi Aperti will be, Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 October, Assisi who will be the protagonist with Unto – Unesco, nature, territory, oil; Spoleto which for October 29th will propose the Walk among the Olives; Todi where “Colori et Olio” is scheduled (from 28 October to 1 November) e Tuoro sul Trasimeno which will propose the “Oil Festival”.

Scattered throughout the region are the villages and cities of art, which will be highlighted in the following four weekends of Frantoi Aperti: 4 and 5 November in Giano dell'Umbria “La Mangiaunta” will be held (3, 4 and 5 November); Gualdo Cattaneo the Borgo dei Castelli will propose “Taste of bread, flavor of oil”; Trevi the “Capital of Oil” will propose “Festivol, Trevi between oil, art, music and taste buds”, while Assisi  UNTO will continue in the castles and in the territory.

The third weekend of Frantoi Aperti, 11 and 12 November, will welcome visitors Assisi with Unto in the castles and in the territory; bettona with “Bettona produces excellence: extra virgin olive oil…and more!” (Saturday 11 November); Campello sul Clitunno with the “Festa dei Frantoi e dei Castelli” which will liven up the Acera Castle on Sunday 12 November; Castel Ritaldi “Il Paese delle Fiabe”, where “Frantotipico” is scheduled, while a Magione “Olivagando” will be held.

On the fourth weekend, 18 and 19 November, the protagonists will be the villages of Assisi with Unto in the castles and in the territory; Arrochar with “Amor d'Olio”; Campello sul Clitunno, with the “Festa dei Frantoi e dei Castelli” which will enliven Piazza della Bianca in particular (Sunday 19 November); And spello with “L'Oro di Spello – Olive Festival and Bruschetta Festival” (from 17 to 19 November).

To close this edition of Frantoi Aperti in Umbria, on the weekend of 25 and 26 November, there will be Assisi with “Anointed in the Castles of the territory”, Amelia where the “Tour of the Giant Patriarchi Olive Trees in the Amerino Typical territory” will be held (Sunday 26 November) and Spoleto which will propose “Eat – Food and Wine at the Theater” (from 23 to 26 November).

Other initiatives linked to the promotion of oil are also planned in the municipalities that overlook the Lake Trasimeno: Castiglione del Lago, Città della Pieve, Magione, Paciano, Panicale, Passignano, Piegaro and Tuoro.

New this year they will be:
– the opening event of Frantoi Aperti, scheduled for Saturday 28 October, will be “The Great Ride Along the Olive Belt of the Assisi Hills – Spoleto”, an oil tourism itinerary by e-bike along the cycle paths that cross the spectacular piedmont landscape of over 40 kilometers (for information www.lagrandepedalata.it);
- the “Tour of the Giant Patriarchi Olive Trees in the Typical Amerino territory”, an itinerary that will take you to visit the hill of centuries-old olive trees Rajo di Montecampano in Amelia, passing through ancient oil mills, modern oil mills and the world collection of “Olea Mundi” olive trees in Lugnano in Teverina;
- “Trekking and fairy tales among the olive trees” for children with the “WalkActress” Loretta Bonamente who will involve children and families in telling stories about trees, olive trees and oil, and then accompany them on a visit to the oil mills of the circuit for a snack based on bread and freshly oil shattered.

Credited as symbolic event of oil tourism in Italy, Frantoi Aperti will offer visitors, again this year, the opportunity to experience the mill in progress, witnessing the production of new oil and immersing themselves in these places which have become multifunctional which, while maintaining a spirit faithful to tradition, show a growing attention for design innovations and, above all, an increasingly marked propensity for hospitality, which precisely on the occasion of Frantoi Aperti finds the ideal moment to best express itself, in fact every mill during the month of Frantoi Aperti will propose initiatives for large and children to approach and learn about the olive tree, extra virgin olive oil and the traditions connected to it.
