Total exports

In the period analyzed, Tunisia exported a total of 180.200 tons of olive oil, scoring an increase in 40,1% compared to the previous year. However, despite the increase in volume, revenues decreased by 28,9%, standing at approximately 740 million euroThis decline is mainly due to the collapse of international prices, with a decrease in the average price per kilogram of 48,9%.

Most of the exported oil (88,1%) was sold bulk, while only 11,9% in packaged form. Extra virgin olive oil constituted 82,5% of the total volume.

In addition to Italy, the main destination markets were the European Union (59,5%), North America (24,9%) and Africa (9,6%).

Italy is also the leading buyer in organic products

Also with regard to theorganic olive oil, Italy confirms itself as the reference market. Of the 34.300 tons of organic oil exported from Tunisia, for a value of approximately 142 million euros, well over 58% was allocated to the Italian market. Spain (21%) and the United States (11%) follow. The average price for organic products was around 4,14 euros per kilogram, with differences between loose and packaged products. Even for organic oil, only 5% of the exported volume was packaged.
