At the date of 9 January 2024 the olive oil portal of National Agri-Food Information System (Sian) recorded the exceeding of the psychological threshold of 250 thousand tons of oil, reaching 253.464. From Puglia it's coming over 56% of the national oil, equal to 142.765 tonnes compared to just under a million tons of olives. And considering that it is still being harvested in various provinces of this region, it is not so far from the truth to imagine that this year the Apulian oil will reach the 60% of the national total, taking into account among other things that many oil mills around Italy have purchased olives here compared to the meager harvests recorded in the central north.
With oil mills practically shut down in the rest of Italy (with a few very rare exceptions), here is the overall picture that the olive oil portal of the Sian offers today:
