“We thank the undersecretary Patrizio La Pietra for this first important comparison between all the players in the olive-oil supply chain and we confirm our full willingness to contribute to the full valorisation of Italian oil”.
Gennaro Sicolo  (in the picture), president of Italia Olivicola, the largest OP association in the country, applauds the initiative launched by the undersecretary al Ministry of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty which called together the olive sector for a joint table, reiterating a concept he has long insisted on: “The added value which has the Italian product it must be recognized and it goes equally redistributed throughout the supply chain, starting with the olive growers which, with growing professionalism, guarantee the successes of Made in Italy in the world, as also recently confirmed by the Nomisma analysis. So it should be encouraged – added Sicolo – a collective action that contributes to making this sector truly strategic, starting right from an increase in production which must be increasingly qualified and oriented towards the full sustainability. There are many challenges in the background: from water crisis to the unresolved node of the Xylellafrom the relationship with the GDO to the rules ofCMO and of the CAP, up to the no less decisive question of theinterprofession. Italia Olivicola is ready to give its contribution in these areas”.
Finally, from Gennaro Sicolo, full support also for the indication of Roberto Berutti as candidate for the role of executive director of the International Olive Council (IOC). Beruti's name current member of the cabinet of the EU Commissioner for Agriculture, was formulated as known by Minister Lollobrigida and the government and will be submitted to the European Union called to present a single candidate representing all the member countries.
