The Phytosanitary observatory of the Puglia region has issued a new circular – n. 4 of 24 May 2024 - which modifies and integrates circular no. 3 of 22 May 2024.
The circular contains the useful information for the purpose of containing and combating the spread of Xylella fastidiosa. In the countryside of the municipalities listed below, falling within the respective delimited areas, it is It is mandatory to carry out insecticide treatments by 10 June 2024, keeping in mind that the immediacy of execution maximizes its effectiveness.
From the monitoring data, in fact, there is a constant increase in the number of adult individuals of the vector insect, the spittlebug (Philaenus spumarius). This increase in population leads to a high risk of transmission and spread of the bacterium.
These are the municipalities in the area delimited by Xylella fastidiosa subspecies pauca, in which it is necessary to intervene on olive and almond crops (there is no obligation on other susceptible crops as there are no authorized products): Monopoli, Polignano, Alberobello, Castellana Grotte, Mola di Bari, Conversano, Putignano, Fasano, Locorotondo, Martina Franca, Crispiano, Statte, Taranto, Massafra, Mottola, Noci, Cisternino, Ostuni, Carovigno.
In the following municipalities falling within the delimited area for Xylella fastidiosa subspecies fastidiosa, Plants infected with Xylella fastidiosa multiplex subspecies have also been identified and the delimitation of the area is being updated. The mandatory interventions must concern olive, almond and vine crops (there is no obligation on other crops susceptible to the bacterium, as there are no authorized products): Triggiano, Bari, Noicattaro, Capurso, Valenzano.
