The crisis of the Spanish olive sector. it also affects consumption. As you know, the last olive oil campaign was among the worst that the Iberian country has recorded in recent years, with just 663 thousand tons of olive oil product, compared to1,4 million the previous year. And it is precisely the limited availability of oil that has led, in Spain as in Italy, to an increase in prices with consequent decreases in sales: based on data provided by the Spanish ministry and reported by the newspaper El Mundo, the sector has witnessed a a decline of 35,4% in volume compared to the previous campaign. A percentage that rises to 40% if only sales to the domestic market are considered.

A gray scenario that has also affected the market leader deoleo. As reported El Mundo, the group has made public the performances of the last year: the collapse in volumes – about 22% – led to an erosion of margins (which was not even compensated by the increase in prices) and a reduction in 43% of Ebitda.
