They amount to 617 thousand tons of olive oil stocks in Europe. It is oil produced in the past campaign, therefore still commercially valid and ready to enter the markets not only to deal with a general drop in production, but also to gain that large share of consumers who only chase the price, which, among other things, the oil from the new campaign - at any latitude - risks not being able to offer due to the impressive increase in costs.
The oil production estimates, on the other hand, leave no room for doubt: for the Spain it is even expected to drop below one million tons for the first time, for theItaly an optimistic hypothesis speaks of a -30% compared to last year, bad too Morocco e Portugal, all only partially offset by production growth in Greece, Turkey e tunisia.
So? So the alarm was raised a few days ago the president of Unaprol, David Granieri (in the picture) on the occasion of the International Evo Oil Week: with the forecasts of a scarcer 2022 campaign, the negative effects will not be lacking, starting with the search for the lowest price, giving breath to stocks, in particular the Spanish ones which are obviously the majority.
Hence the choice, underlined Granieri, to focus onhigh quality, segment where we lost 8% against an increase of 25% worldwide, only partially mitigated by the price increase. This means that on the one hand the higher price does not frighten the informed consumer, on the other hand there is still a lot to do, especially to strengthen the link between quality, health and well-being.
Laura Di Rienzo, director of the School of Specialization in Nutrition Science in Rome II - Tor Vergata (in the picture) he clarified it, almost inviting to change shelf for extra virgin olive oil: away from that “various condiments” to position himself fully in that  "health and wellness". In this regard, he notes: "Scientific data now leaves no room for doubt: two tablespoons a day of extra virgin olive oil of have a positive effect on the prevention of cardiovascular diseases, neurodegenerative diseases, metabolic diseases starting from type 2 diabetes and obesity, against tumors and intestinal diseases. This is thanks to a content of Vitamin E and polyphenols including oleocanthal, tyrosol, hydroxytyrosol, oleuropein, as well as squalene which is a chemical compound. These are nutrients and quality indicators that the European Regulation allows to declare on the label. And which would allow, as already happens, to sell a 250 milliliter bottle at a pharmacy for 15 euros".
