“After about 20 years of fair battles on the part of Ligurian companies and our support in the process in recent months between technical tables and commissions, the OK arrives from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry to the PGI of Ligurian Taggiasca olives. A historic achievement which paves the way for the completion of the process with the European Commission and which will allow, already in this window period, to distinguish Ligurian production from others by valorising the work of our farmers. If Ligurian Taggiasca has always been an undisputed heritage of our region, now it has finally seen its value recognized in the eyes of consumers and well beyond our borders. It's more than a brand: it's a new relaunch of the sector."

Thus the president of the Liguria Region Giovanni Toti and vice president and councilor with responsibility for Agriculture and Territorial Marketing Alessandro Piana recalling the synergistic work to obtain the awarding of the PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) mark to the Taggiasca olives of the Department with the Ministry, the local Administrations, the Association of producers of Ligurian Taggiasche Olives, the professional and trade associations, the Consortia , the Chamber System, the Industrial Union and all the bodies, farmers and economic operators.

“For this important result I would like to strongly thank the companies that have always been committed to high-quality products and who, together with the regional associations of the production, artisan and industrial supply chain, the Liguria Region and the various representatives in the institutions, have supported the request of protection ofLigurian PGI Taggiasca olive - he claims Carlo Siffredi, President of the proposing Association -. This is another fundamental piece, together with the modification of the production specifications of theRiviera Ligure DOP oil, for the protection and valorization of the Ligurian Taggiasca. We will immediately ask for transitional protection for Ligurian Taggiasca olives in order to allow Ligurian companies, as done for Riviera Ligure DOP oil, to differentiate themselves on the market with a quality product linked to our territory".
