At a time when we are becoming aware that the true future of Italian olive growing lies in quality productions, with the utmost respect and protection of biodiversity and the environment, under the banner not only of good taste, but also of nutritional and health aspects , the National review of monovarietal oils, organized byAMAP – Agency for Innovation in the Agri-Food and Fishing Sector, makes an important contribution to the characterization and enhancement of the extremely rich and varied national olive-growing heritage.
Arrived atedition number 20, the Review has long been the only reference for oils obtained from native Italian varieties, varieties and non-cultivars, monovarietal and non-monocultivar oils, precisely to reaffirm the strong link with the territory, and above all environmental compatibility, from which one cannot more regardless in the era of climate change. This is not a competition, there are no rankings… oils of different varieties are not comparable, each has its own peculiarities, which must be managed in the agronomic and technological fields and also valorised when used in gastronomy.
At the basis of a whole project to enhance olive growing to restore dignity and income to a species as loved as it is mistreated. The work of AMAP professional panel – Marche recognized by the Ministry and active since 1998 and del AMAP Agrochemical Center of Jesi, Accredia accredited, and the statistical skills of Massimiliano Magli of IBE-CNR Bologna, have contributed to giving consistency, concreteness and value to an ever-growing database, a real treasure trove of Italian olive biodiversity, which can be consulted on ww.olimonovarietali.it.
Every year new genotypes classified and described in the regional catalogs enter the database and Italian olive biodiversity slowly uncovers its cards. The National Review of monovarietal oils will celebrate 20 years of history by returning "to its origins", in the evocative setting of theAbbadia di Fiastra in the long weekend of 2 June. An appointment not to be missed for expert tasters, "educated", attentive, curious and demanding consumers, serious and professional producers with a great desire for comparison; in the name of biodiversity, quality and identity, to enhance the personality of each oil, which even arrives on the plate, enriched with history, culture, traditions, landscape, historical plants, typical recipes, in a word of terroir.
To embellish the Review in this edition, Golden Scissors 18th birthday party – National Polyconic Vase Olive Tree Pruning Championship, organized by AMAP, in which they will compete 60 pruners selected from all over Italy, Sunday 4 June at the Mari Maurizio Company and the Archaeological Park of Urbisaglia.
