We are consuming little oil, mostly Italian, while the oil industry is continuing to purchase European and non-EU oil to cope with the reduced extra virgin stocks.
This is the picture that emerges from monthly report that l 'Central Inspectorate for the protection of quality and fraud repression of agri-food productsi has just released, reporting last month's data February.
Here they are in summary: in the reservoirs of Italy they are present 313 thousand tons of oil, Of which 230 thousand extra virgin (that Italian taste is equal to 130 thousand tons), a little less than 5 thousand tons di virgin and well 75 thousand tons between lampante, pomace olive oil and refined olive oilor. Compared to the same period last year we have therefore 50 thousand tons less (they were in fact 363 thousand as of February 28, 2022), a decrease of over 13 percentage points almost entirely due to less Italian extra virgin olive oil (-42 thousand tons). On the other hand, the tons of extra-EU oil have doubled (from 5 to 10) compared to a year ago. Finally, theincrease in olive oil, i.e. the adjusted one, which is equal to almost 20 thousand tons il 25% more compared not only to the same period of 2022, but also compared to last January.
Slightly less than80% of the oil is held by five regions: obviously stands out there Puglia with over 109 thousand tons, followed by Toscana (53 thousand), Umbria (31 thousand), Calabria (27 thousand) and Sicilia (21 thousand).
Among Dop and PGI è Land of Bari to have the largest stocks (over 7 million litres, equal to 34% of certified oil), followed by Val di Mazara (13,1) Toscano (12,5) and Sicilia (12,4). From organic oil Italian tanks hold just under 39 thousand tons.
