The institutional page Xylella emergency has been updated with 11 new test reports and the communication of the discovery of another 34 infected olive trees, largely in the buffer zone of Monopoli (22) e Polignano (5) and the rest 7 in the countryside of Fasano, which are added to the 13 from last week.
In particular, in Polignano two new outbreaks have been identified, also near the SS16, both beyond the previous northern limit. The new latitude is nearly two kilometers further north than the previous boundary of a Monopoli hotbed. The 22 infected from Monopoli are distributed among three already known outbreaks, while almost all the new positives from Fasano add to the already known outbreak at the service station, but a tree generates a new outbreak over a kilometer further south.
Once again it is confirmed as they are the parking sites of the high-traffic roads those where the risk of new outbreaks is higher and where, therefore, is it is advisable to maintain an intense surveillance activity and to intensify prevention actions (e.g. vector control, reduction or prohibition of susceptible plants, frequent and widespread monitoring, etc.).
With the new findings, the total number of infected in the new monitoring campaign (47 positive), despite the fact that it is still in the initial stage, it already reaches almost a third of last year's total, when in the "free" areas, "buffer" and "containment" were found 146 infected plants (compared to over 3.000 infected of the former containment where, however, this year monitoring is no longer envisaged).
Unlike the infected of the outbreaks of Fasano (containment area), for the 27 infected from Monopoli and Polignano it is expected, except for any derogation for monumental negatives, the killing of all plants susceptible to the bacterium present in a radius of 50 metres.
