Almost six out of ten tourists (58%) buy the oil directly in the mill, so as to optimize the price/quality ratio and take home a piece of traditional history at the table. Then there are the “pick your own” (literally "choose yours") and le "distance adoption" of olive trees that strengthen and make the relationship with the territory lasting by deseasonalizing tourism.
It is what emerges from an analysis by Coldiretti Puglia, released on the occasion of the World Tourism Day, from which it is evident that the food even represents for the 17% of Italiansi the main choice motivation of the place of holiday, while for another 56% it is one of the criteria on which to base their preference.
According to a survey conducted on the Coldiretti Puglia website 65% of consumers and tourists are interested in harvesting olives with their own hands and in producing their own oil, direct contact with the farmer and the miller for 59%, guided tastings for 73%, as well as events and artistic activities in the olive groves for 43%.
“'Distance adoptions' of olive trees in Puglia are always open – he said the president of Coldiretti Puglia, Savino Muraglia (in the picture) – so that the consumer is certain that the bottle of extra virgin olive oil comes from the olives of the chosen and adopted tree. Adopting an olive tree is a unique experience, because it allows you to establish a direct and lasting relationship over time. We give the opportunity to follow the life stages of the olive tree, its state of health, its own development, in order to welcome tourists and consumers in our olive groves and in our mills to experience the experience of taking care of a olive tree and live the production of extra virgin olive oil”.
