Bentley, one of the world's most prestigious car manufacturers, will use the waste water from the olive oil extraction process for the tanning of a very soft leather and of absolute quality with which upholster your seats. The skin, completely organic, takes the name of Olive Tan and for Bentley it wants to represent a further step towards becoming a leader in sustainable luxury mobility. Bentley is universally recognized for its use of sophisticated and refined leathers, yet is constantly striving to improve its sustainable materials credentials. This new option represents a major step forward: the Olive Tan leather will be visible for the first time su a new Bentley model which will be presented future (Friday, August 18) at Monterey Car Week, in California.

“The distinctive feature of this leather – explains the British car manufacturer – lies in a sustainable tanning process that uses an organic by-product from the oil industry. Derived from the wastewater extracted during the olive pressing procedure, the tanning agent remains free of harmful metals, minerals and aldehydes. This technique requires less water than a conventional tanning process and also offers excellent leather quality with a higher concentration of renewable chemicals.” The resulting organic leather is incredibly soft and fit to be offered by the world's most sought-after luxury car brand. Bentley Motors is the first automaker to use the technology Olive Mill Wastewater (OMW) of the tannery Pasubio SpA, a leading Italian company in the sector.

Marc Stang, Technical Expert Leather at Bentley Motors, said: “Leather is an integral component of our car interiors and a primary element in creating what we call the signature Bentley finish. It's also durable, which is particularly important given that 84 per cent of all Bentley cars built are still on the road in the UK and beyond."
