Thanks to the absence of product from the traditional European markets of reference (Spain above all), the supply of oil is reflected in non-European countries, Tunisia first and foremost. It is therefore not surprising, given the strong demand, that the average export price of Tunisian olive oil has recorded a 74% increase from November 2023 to January 2024, passing from 14.880 dinars/tonne (equal to 4.509 euros) to 25.854 dinars/tonne (i.e. 7.834 euros).

This was revealed by the Ansa Agency by referring to the data published by the National Olive Oil Office, according to which revenues from Tunisian olive oil exports increased from November 2022 to January 2023 to 1,59 billion dinars (481 million euros approximately) compared to 940 million dinars (284 million euros).

However, the quantities of olive oil exported recorded a decline, from 63.169 tonnes to 61.506 tonnes. As regards packaged olive oil, the quantities exported in the last quarter increased by 9% compared to the same period last year, reaching 6.397 tonnes and generating a turnover of 177 million dinars (54 million approximately euros).

According to the National Agricultural Observatory (Onagri), this season olive oil production is expected to be between 210.000 and 220.000 tons, compared to 217.000 tonnes last season. In 2023, the value of Tunisian olive oil exports reached 3,8 billion dinars (approximately 1,15 billion euros), compared to 2,5 billion dinars (800 million euros) at the end of 2022.
