The oil produced in September is officially part of the 2022/2023 oil campaign. As already anticipated by The Olive News, Was disclosed today the opinion of Ministry of Agriculture, signed by general director Luigi Polizzi, in which it is clarified that the "collection campaign" has no connection with the "marketing campaign" which sets the start date as the 1 ° October, since, as the letter reads, “of two different definitions both in substance and in the legislative basis".
Therefore, clarifies the opinion of the Mipaaf, "the two time periods that refer to the harvesting campaign and the marketing campaign do not necessarily have to coincide".
The letter is addressed to theICQRF who had sent the request for an opinion and who in turn immediately forwarded the communication to the trade associations and organisations.
As we anticipated at the time, here is thehappy ending epilogue for a bureaucratic issue "unleashed" by EU Regulation 2117/2021, article 6, letter f) which establishes that the marketing campaign of the olive oil goes “from 1st October to 30th September of the following year”, thus preventing, for those who are already milling in September - as is the case in much of Sicily - of not being able to include its production of these days in the 2022/2023 campaign. Now, no reference should be made to this time limit for the definition of the "harvest campaign" of the olives referred to in EU Regulation 29/2012 which provides that the indication of the harvesting campaign can appear on the label only when 100% of the content of the package comes from this harvesting.
