Aifo – Italian Association of Oil Mills celebrated its annual congress a strong growing number of members and the awareness of being able to achieve important goals. For Elijah Pellegrino (in the picture) at the head of the Association for two years, this 27th congress it was also an opportunity to take stock of the full operation of Aifo after the pandemic and point the way ahead. Claiming full dignity for the miller which covers a central role in the supply chain olive-oil growing.
“I believe that the strategy adopted by demonstrate that you are and are a union in its deepest meaning - said Pellegrino - was successful ed start bearing fruit. The millers need to feel protected, to have someone who goes to Rome to assert reasons and rights, someone who knows how to explain and who knows how to train, condition necessary to always keep up with the constant regulatory and certification innovations. They need legal, administrative and often also accounting protection, technicians able to understand why some inspection bodies interpret the laws on safety and the environment with a personal or regional vision. Maybe – pressed the president Aifo – It's time to raise your voice, to demand dignity even within the olive oil supply chain, to make people understand that the oil is produced exclusively by the millers. The miller is a producer of oil for Italian and Community law, but how much does he manage to emerge in terms of strength? Little or nothing… Let's reverse this trend and do it now!”
In his report, Elia Pellegrino recalled the important thing supply chain project that Aifo has activated together with Aproli for 47 million euro, but also i punctual interventions that the Association has placed on the decree for the modernization of the mills ("but it is inexplicable that the go-ahead has not yet arrived for the issuing of regional tenders, where, moreover, each Region goes on its own" he commented) allowing the Ministry to correct some distortions such as the obligatory request of theSingle Environmental Authorization (AUA) very often not in the possession of the millers. And he also underlined the important role of the miller in the fields of sustainability and circularity, recalling the constant interlocutions for the development of synergies in the field of by-products, vegetation water, olive leaves and above all both biphasic and triphasic pomace.
Finally, the announcement of an important entry into the team: Giuseppe L'Abbate, former undersecretary at the time of the Mipaaf when he sent for the first time in history 8 million to the crusher sector for freezing in Puglia, a profound connoisseur of the sector and legislative expert.
For all members, the appointment is for next September, with a day finally in the presence of institutional bodies and other representatives of the supply chain.
