Oil, low yields are reducing expectations

The estimated tons will hardly be reached

We are 192 thousand tons of new oil in this olive oil campaign that has closed its doors throughout the central north and, Puglia aside, is also drawing to a close in the south.

This means that probably we will not reach the 280/290 thousand tonnes estimated at the beginning of the campaign, but we will stop just over 250 thousand. To reduce the forecasts it wasn't so much the quantity of olives harvested, but rather the yield certainly lower than expectations.

The Sian register also leaves no room for doubt on another aspect: the low interregional trade of olives. The high prices have discouraged many oil mills in the centre-north from purchasing batches of olives from the south, as demonstrated by thesmall deviation recorded between the quantities of oil recorded on 30 November and those on 15 December.

We put Puglia aside, in the introduction. And yes, why here the mills are still working at full capacity. Or rather, while in the Gargano area and in the south (Lecce and Taranto) we are now close to the end,Brindisi area where the Piana degli Oliveti Monumentali is located, it is still around 60/70% of the harvest further back are the Bari area and the north of Bari (the Bat province) where it is around 60%. Which is why the mills will probably be operational until the end of January.

La Calabria, for its part, has completed the collection in the center, the is finishing in the Tyrrhenian area and it's 80% in the ionic one. Another fifteen days of work and the mills close.

Virtually over Sicilia, where insiders estimate a 95% of collection completed, also in this case with a production lower than initial expectations.

Here, however, is an overall summary, region by region.
