David Granieri was reappointed to lead Unaprol, the consortium of Italian olive production headed by Coldiretti of which Granieri himself is national vice president. The shareholders' meeting, which approved the company's financial statements, also renewed theentire board of directors is will remain in office until 2026.
In thanking the shareholders for the renewed trust, Granieri, 44 years old, the last 9 of which passed at the helm of Unaprol, indicated the new objectives on which to focus: "We have various challenges in recent years for the relaunch of Italian olive growing through actions in Italy and in Europe to protection of product quality, of farmers' work and as a guarantee for consumers. Starting, for example, with the proposal to restrict the chemical parameters of the extra virgin olive oil category and with the opposition to any action that aims to delegitimize the probative value of the panel test”.
On the Italian front, Granieri added: “We must raise awareness in politics to really believe in this sector through a new national olive oil plan is strengthen virtuous production chains through new plants, the modernization of existing ones for which the first resources have already been allocated. We also have a duty to be ready to face the challenges of climate change which this year, for example, based on initial estimates, could halve production in Spain”.
A reflection, the president Unaprol has also dedicated to fight against Xylella with respect to which “it will be essential to continue the actions on the Ministry and the Puglia Region to speed up the spending process of the 300 million already allocated for the extraordinary plan for the regeneration of Puglia's olive trees and to allocate additional resources. In this sense, the liberalization of the patent of the FS-17 Favolosa cultivar, which together with the leccino is the only one resistant to the disease, and the support for the search for new resistant cultivars could favor the rebirth of Salento olive growing”.
