The "challenge" between European countries on extra virgin olive oil no longer makes sense. In this sector there are many emerging countries of the southern Mediterranean area and therefore in Europe we need to join forces to have an ever greater weight on the markets. This is what emerged yesterday from the conference at the Capital hotel in Campagna promoted by Salerno confagriculture, on the initiative of Leonardo Feola, who brought together at the same table the olive oil supply chains of Italy and Spain for a comparison on the techniques of transformation and enhancement of extra virgin olive oil and on the promotion of oil tourism. “We strongly wanted – he highlighted Antonio Costantino, president of Confagricoltura Salerno, on the sidelines of the event – this Italy-Spain initiative, precisely to establish a pairing on oil, which must lead to leveling the quality of the product offer and territorial promotion between the two countries. We will sign a memorandum of understanding to create the right synergy capable of looking at the environmental, but also the economic and social sustainability of the supply chain, to make it clear that divisions are of no use to anyone”.

Confagricoltura is committed to advancing theIGP Campania oil, in which he is playing a decisive role Anthony Casazza, and is also working to support oil DOPs and alongside producers. “At the same time, however – said Costantino – we are always attentive to what the market requires to guide the strategic choices to be made. I firmly believe that now is the time to create a system, no longer just with words but with concreteness, to work on the ever-increasing quality of our oil and also on the oil tourism sector, which, as demonstrated by our Spanish friends, is a growing phenomenon of clear economic viability. Confagricoltura Salerno - concluded Costantino - in concert with regional and national Confagricoltura, is working hard on these issues and we are open to all the synergies that put companies and territories at the center, without personalities and useless protagonisms ".

At the conference, which also saw the participation of classes of Profagri of Salerno and Country Technical Institute, they intervened Paolo Mariani, national president of Assofrantoi; Palma Esposito, Head of Oil of the National Confagricoltura; Antonio Casazza, vice president of the IGP Olio Campania promoting committee and president of the olive section of Confagricoltura Campania. For Spain there were: Manuel Caravaca, president of Aemoda (Spanish Association of Oil Masters) whose 10th anniversary occurred; José M. Penco, director of the Spanish Association of Olive Municipalities; Manuel J. Jiménez, owner of the San Francisco Olive Oil; Isabel Calvache, director e founder of Caracol Tours. Furthermore, the event was also attended by prof. Alexander Leo, professor at the “Aldo Moro” University of Bari and/or prof. Michele Trimarco of Associated Tasters.
